Who am I? |
I'm a lovely lady that sees life as one big adventure. I'm 17 years old (soon to be 18) Muslim starting medical school in Tbilisi this year. I'm extremely mixed - my mother is Canadian English/Irish/other and my father is Indian and a Sri Lankan Moor/other who grew up in Brunei so I get to see the best of both worlds. I grew up in Sri Lanka for part of my earlier life and then came to live in Newfoundland, Canada (where my mother is from) until the end of high school. I love to have fun and dance but I'm very ambitious as well. I'm extremely liberal and very opinionated on what is right. I'm also extremely involved with my community through volunteer work with human rights. I'm very friendly and I love to smile. :) |

I love anything aesthetically pleasing - I love watching people dance, act and sing. I'm a huge Broadway fan and I sing show tunes more than I should. I love instrumental music, especially the strings such as the cello and violin. I'm a huge cricket fan but I can't play much myself. I love to fence though and I adore using the Saber. I also adore anything interesting and I love to read, especially about modern day politics, economics, philosophy, ancient history, international relations and development. I've been playing the saxophone for five years and I absolutely love it. I also enjoy debating and public speaking as well and I'm extremely expressive in what I believe in. I love dancing of all kinds - jazz, ballet, Bollywood, etc. I've taken jazz dancing but my true passion in dance lies in the ballroom and Latin dance classes I've taken. I'm not too keen on video games but I cannot express how much I love Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy. I'm into many fandoms and I love anime/manga - Naruto, Cardcaptor Sakura, Digimon to name a few. I also enjoy Korean and Japanese dramas. I cannot explain my love for Disney movies - it knows no ends. And of course, there is my favourite regular television shows. :) |

I have faith that the most important things cannot be learned from books (though you gain much from books); they have to be learnt in person through experience. I want to become a leading physician in emergency medicine. I have many big dreams about travelling and seeing the world - I'm hoping the next few years will be full of that. I plan to work with Médecins Sans Frontières when I'm older and I can only pray that I'll be good enough for that. I also believe in imagination and the power of human empathy. Amnesty International, a organization I work with closely, showed me how amazing our imagination is. That we have "the power that enables us to empathise with humans whose experiences we have never shared.” By being apart of something greater than yourself, you are making something – it could music, beauty, a difference, anything - but it is always extremely important to make these things. We are the ones creating our future – the future. We must create, create, create and then maintain. I'm a humanitarian and I believe that the only way for the world to change is to do it now and make that you take the initiative to do it yourself. I believe in the power of human empathy and my participation in this is the most "humbling and inspiring experiences of my life.” |
